Information for City Residents - Tennessee American Water Lead Service Line Inventory

Tennessee American Water is conducting a Lead Service Line Inventory as part of a new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirement. This nationwide rule directs water utilities to identify the materials of all water service lines, including the portion of the line that is customer-owned.

Because customer-owned service lines have not historically been documented, Tennessee American Water is asking residents to assist by checking and self-reporting the material of their service line. This information helps determine where lead or galvanized service lines may exist and supports long-term planning for replacements.

Residents can find step-by-step instructions, an instructional video, and an interactive map on Tennessee American Water’s dedicated webpage linked below.

By participating in the self-reporting process, residents help Tennessee American Water complete the EPA-required inventory and support efforts to maintain safe, reliable water service.

Tennessee American Water confirms that the water delivered to customers meets or exceeds all state and federal drinking water standards, including those for lead.
