CALL FOR SPECIAL ELECTION for the office of Mayor: Qualifying begins 9/30/25 at 8:30 AM thru 10/02/2025 at 4:30 PM

Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O.C.G.A. Sections 21-2-540 and 21-2-541, a special election shall be held in the City of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, to fill the vacancy in the office of Mayor, caused by the resignation of the Honorable David S. Bennett and his official withdrawal as the only candidate for Mayor after qualifying to run for reelection.  Because no one else has qualified as a candidate for the office of Mayor in the general election to be held on November 4, 2025, the office of Mayor cannot be filled in the general election.

In accordance with O.C.G.A. Section 21-2-541, the special election for the office of Mayor will be held on November 4, 2025, at the same time as the general election for members of the Lookout Mountain City Council.

Qualifying for the special election shall be held at City Hall, 1214 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain, Georgia, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, and ending at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2025.  The qualifying fee shall be $25.00 paid by check or
money order.

Candidates for Mayor must file their Notice of Candidacy, Nomination Petition, and qualifying fee of $25.00 at City Hall during the qualifying period, or they will not be eligible for election.

All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to register to vote in the
special election and general election may register to vote through the close of business on October 6, 2025.

Early voting will be held at the Fairyland Precinct, 1214 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain, GA 30750, on the following dates and times:

Tuesday October 14 - Saturday October 18 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Monday October 20 - Saturday October 25  from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Monday October 27 - Friday October 31 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.  

Should a runoff election be required, such runoff will be held on December 2, 2025.
