Joe Wilson Park

Plot_Plan

Great things are happening in the City! Our Beautification Committee is hard at work making this park even better than before! 4,000 jonquil bulbs were planted last year. We are sure residents are beginning to enjoy the sights and smells that come from the park so far this spring. The Garden Club of Lookout Mountain donated the bulbs to the city and Rock City provided the labor to get them in the ground. “In the spring, it will be spectacular,” said Council Member Taylor Watson. Oh my has it been!

Mayor David Bennett would like to publicly acknowledge and thank Rock City for partnering with the city.

History of Joe Wilson Park
A favorite of city staff, parents and kids alike, Joe Wilson, the longtime recreational supervisor of Lookout Mountain, Ga., passed away unexpectedly in August of 2017 at the age of 45. This park was dedicated in his remembrance in November of 2016.

Employees of the city remembered Wilson fondly as someone who was always the first to come into work and one of the last to leave.

"He was an incredibly dedicated employee who loved his job and serving the community," said Mayor David Bennett, who knew Wilson for close to 10 years. "He kept up all of our fields like they were his own backyard, and I know he took a lot of pride in taking care of all our green space in the community."
