The Lookout Mountain Sanitary Sewer System is now in it’s sixth year of successful operation.
We have a lot more experience in operating and maintaining the system, and we have quite a few residents; therefore, we felt it appropriate to update our policy and remind you of important sewer usage “do’s and don’ts”.
For the majority of our citizens who are careful about what is flushed into our system, we will continue to service your system (pump, grinder, and tank) at the city’s expense.
A few of our residents are continuing to deposit foreign material (glass, metal, diapers, dental floss, socks, rags, cloth, plastic objects, sanitary napkins, tampons, etc.) into their systems. This foreign material can damage the pump or cause a line blockage.
The City can no longer continue to repair these types of problems for free of charge. The minimum repair cost for a foreign material clogged pump is $215.00 ($65.00 for service call and $150 for the tank-cleaning bill). Clogged service lines or damaged electrical equipment (pump, control panel components, level controls, etc.) will be an additional charge. We appreciate your understanding in this manner.
Included with this letter on brightly colored paper is a copy of the original sheet of allowed and disallowed substances that can be flushed into the system. This sheet also contains the procedure and phone numbers to call in the event your alarm goes off indicating a problem.
Thank You,
Brad Haven
Sewer System Superintendent
